Death Penalty
Been playing Poe for over 10 years now on and off, mostly on. Love both the games most of the time, really like poe 2 until about 92 then really no point in continuing with the character as death is too costly.
Please get rid of the experience loss on death. I usually play for hours or days on end. then, when I die at high level and those days of playing are erased and I usually log off. especially if its a lag death not my fault and to a lesser extent if its something I don't understand. Like no monnsters around for 4 seconds then something explodes and takes me with it. Some times I don't log back in for days. Sometimes I quit that character altogether. Sometimes I quit poe for 6 months. It is very frustrating and serves no real purpose that I can see. I quit my level 90 character yesterday after a 6 hour grind and 2 deaths. No divines dropped and back to where I started the day, pretty much of huge waste of my time. No desire to play today at all. Think I will go back and see how New World is again. I think the game is great and fun to play until you start getting in to the low 90's, then its time to go play another game for a while because its so hard to gain any ground/power with your character. did u reach lvl 100 in poe 1 by your own ?

What makes your mind set that 100 is the goal and if you are not reaching it, there is something wrong with the game?
Do you also want to change Chess just because you are not tank top 100? Just to offer a different perspective: - Level 100 means nothing more compared to lvl 90 or even 80. No content is gated behind that level and 99% of builds are functional well enough to clear everything in the game with level 80 character. - If you are stuck on level 92, then that's where you belong with your skill and character. If you improve and stop dying, you will progress onto the next, harder level. Similar logic as in most of the games. |

" To offer another-other perspective: -Experience is the only thing you get for certain for killing an enemy. If you view it like a currency, it's the only one you earn for your labor for certain, and everything that drops is a "bonus". It's the stable wage of effort->reward. -The only thing to spend it on is "one level," but you still earned it by killing all those enemies, by putting in all those hours. It's yours, even if it's not terribly useful, even if you can't buy gear or DPS with it. At high levels, you earn so pitifully little that accumulating a substantial amount of it becomes quite the accomplishment. It's hard to save up all those XP pennies, and buy a level. -Then, something oneshots you. Some overtuned enemy, some zone hitch that forces the game to reload, but surprise, all the enemies don't render anymore, but you're still taking damage. In the current state of the game, any weird hiccup, bug, or just bad enemy damage balancing can and will eventually kill you. Your build's viability won't save you from the game being in early access. -When it does, it will remove several hours worth of the XP pennies you accumulated. That level you should have been able to buy with just a few more hours of effort is now a few more hours away. Better hope nothing else weird happens to kill you between then and now, or else it'll be even further away. -And so on and so forth. By the way, all this time grinding, nothing exciting happened otherwise, so the XP was the only interesting thing you got. Maybe if anything else happened, nobody would mind being stuck somewhere between 85-95 for dozens of hours. That's pretty much XP accumulation at endgame in a nutshell. If your only option for buying a divine orb was to trade in transmutation shards for it, you'd probably quit. Doubly so if every 100 you collected, someone randomly showed up, kicked you in the nuts, and took 10 of them. Do people need to reach level 100? Of course not, but it's still valuable progress to many people. What's one piece of steady progress in a sea of RNG hurt? If your argument is you're fine stopping at 90, then you'd be fine stopping at 100, when it... stops. Last edited by Razorbeam#1958 on Apr 30, 2025, 4:17:53 PM

Again, my opinion, yes I have several level 100's on poe 1. Still think death penalty is stupid.

" Stop telling other players what goals they should have and what should matter to them. If 100 means nothing to you, then you shouldn't have an opinion on it either way. Obviously when people complain about XP penalty leveling up past 80 or 90 means something to them, and using lame talking points won't change minds. Getting to 100 does matter to a lot of people and it is a goal. When that progressed is gated through a combination of slow leveling and losing exp, it completely takes the fun out of leveling. And yes, there is a difference between lvl 80, 90, and 100 no matter how much you say it doesn't matter. I want those extra 10-20 skill points. I want to max out my passives and have a little more flexibility to experiment. You don't care about those points, then good for you go ahead and enjoy your character. I care about it and nothing you say will change how I get enjoyment out of my game. |

I thought the point of early access was to tell the developers what you thought about the game.
I always thought picking up portal scrolls and scrolls of wisdom too was stupid and monotonous. Thats gone. I think it changes poe 2 for the better. I also think removing death penalty would make me play more, and probably some other people. I can get to 100, it just becomes a slog. Power should be gated behind other things like crafting or trials or loot. Getting to 100 should be like phase 2 of the endgame, once you reach 100 another game starts, much like finishing the trial and you start phase 2. On Poe 1, I have probably 1500 mirrors from playing auction house, crafting , that one season I did nothing but sit in hideout and exchange currency lol. But even in poe 1 unless I really enjoyed playing the character, i usually stopped around 96 and started something new. Bottom line I still think death penalty is dumb! Thanks for listening to the rant! |

Get rid of exp loss. Hardcore exists. Masochists have their option.
