Why is GGG Stopping Phrecia?

I think GGG is no longer thinking of PoE1 as their cherished baby, but rather nuisance they are forced to feed every year or so.

They aren't events. They are private leagues. Very big difference, there is no "public" in private leagues which makes them almost entirely DOA unless you play and like SSF.

Also not an answer to why Phrecia had to end. The only rationale is that it might conflict with the few private league options that don't have Phrecia as its "base". But there's a very easy solution: have one of the private templates be "phrecia extension" and allow us to drop our phrecia characters directly into it.


And instead of all of these being private templates.......why not just have them ALL be actual public events? Might even get a critical mass that way to foster at least some trade.

Keywords in the announcement: "That YOU can create, up to 20k people".......meaning it isn't just 15 different fragments of PoE (already a terrible terrible idea), but an infinite number of fragments within that too.

GGG is literally handing the reins of the game over to streamers, as they will be the only ones capable of actually fielding enough players for a thriving private league, instead of doing the actual thinking and work themselves. They have fully and completely given up. Totally out of ideas for both PoE 2 and clearly now PoE 1 as well.

They are events, and they will announce more details for it this coming week. We just gotta wait.


This is why they ended Phrecia, because May will have 5 new events running till 3.26 news comes out at the end of May hopefully.

Nope, it says events. This is an announcement of the announcement. Just wait till the end of this next week and they'll have more info lol, that is literally what it says in the post. I already quoted it.

The first part of the post is about private league templates, but at the end it says there will be 5 new events in May. These are 2 separate things entirely.

There is no such thing as "private events" anyway how would that even work, invite-only or something? lmfao

They're gonna do events with MTX raffles and a free box as usual, they just wanted to end Phrecia because they got a lineup of new events to run until we get 3.26 news. That's all.

^re-read the news post, my friend. You are completely misunderstanding it and misrepresenting it. It is stunningly clear for you to twist it so incorrectly hehe.

(I'd probably start with the title of the post lol)

TItle: "3.25 end of league PRIVATE LEAGUE events"

two lines after that: "15 PRIVATE LEAGUE templates"


GGG is using "events" for everything in the post, simply because the "free private league templates" ARE events: they cease to exist after this, and usually aren't free to begin with. THAT is the event.

The 15 templates are:
the first 5 in the post
the first 5 PLUS gauntlet
the last 5



*And yes, they work just like regular private leagues: you invite people to it. Literally says that right in the post....That is why I wrote that streamers will hold all the power. Only THEY can invite a critical mass of followers.

What YOU describe is exactly how it SHOULD run (at the very least).......but not what their post says.

read the post. It's all about giving private leagues different templates to mess around with, so you can play whatever you like by yourself, with friends or in a larger open private league created by someone.

Also btw private events are already around ever since the existence of private leagues. Did you never heard anything about bpl or similar player driven events before? If yes you missed out on a lot of fun lol

You can be happy if they hand out a free $5 rng box as a one Time reward for reaching a certain level within a private league. But that's already quite unlikely giving that they already throw out multiple private leagues and slots for free.

They just posted update about these events. Looks to be all private events to me.
