Suggestion how to Fix THORNS viability

Steal the idea. put it in a gem or something. or make it a unique. its desperatly needed. i want to play a thorns build. but i dont want to have to wait until i get hit until i do damage.

You need to be hit, but its only an issue in case of a few bossfights. And that is fixed with the Unique helmet.

Speaking of... I think Pale King Unique should be a Key node, and the helmets "power" should be that you free up skillpoints that lead to that node.
Wait. Thorns is triggered when you get hit, that's the whole idea of the mechanic...and your suggestion is to just turn it into bonus damage on your own attacks? We already have bonus damage to attack all over the place.

Btw... thorn only triggered if you get hit by a melee attack.

With Pale King any hit matters, so ranged enemies and pesky spellcaster can die too... Well... you have to stand still. You don't know that movement speed is a hidden defensive mechanic until you build thorn. :D
You would think its OP, until you try the build out.


And uberlategame its falling behind, because even if you have 25k armor and 4k hp, you get often oneshotted. You learn what can you facetank.

And yes, we have Barbs that gives your thorn value to your next 4 single target AFTER you retaliate with thorn.
And Quilburst which is an aoe thorn BUT cant damage the target that triggered your thorn. Good for clearing on single target fight you take it off.
And it was needed. Because you HAD to rely on enemy attack speed. The time in 0.1 we killed first rare, most build started their 3 map... XD

And thorn is a retaliation mechanic, so only global and physical damage nodes increase it. And obviously the thorn related one.
Unless you aim to build a Fire Avatar Thorn warrior...

Another issue are bosses that doesn't have any hit... in that case your dps drops down hard.
Oh... and need armor brake into your rotation because while you can stack thorn stat majority is still coming from Scavanged Plating.

I play a thorns build and this isn't needed. If you're playing thorns, get hit. That's the idea. What I want is more skill gems that play off thorns. Make caltrops better, too. And give us affixes on all gear that adds thorns damage and increases thorns crit, or something. Rings, Gloves and amulets should provide thorns too. Weapons even.

What I think they could do with your idea is make it a charm that activates after a certain amount of retaliations with thorns or something along those lines and increases your thorns damage by a flat %. I don't want a weapon that just makes me do my thorns damage without any synergy, that's lame and defeats the idea.
